Jennifer Murphy – Registered Osteopath
I knew that I wanted to be in the health care profession since I was a child, I was always the one administering massages to my loved ones. As my two older sisters are nurses, it was assumed I would go down this route however my fear of needles and blood soon put paid to that.
It wasn’t until I came across Osteopathy whilst studying Nutritional Science at UCC that I knew I’d found what I really wanted to do and to this day I’m still as passionate as ever.
Its holistic approach to the body instantly resonated with me and I graduated with a B.Sc (Hons) Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine, UK in 2007.
Since graduating, I have been in private practice treating both adults and children. I enjoy treating people of all ages from the newborn to the elderly and also have a keen interest in women and children’s health.
I have undertaken several postgraduate courses in paediatrics (children) and obstetric osteopathy (the treatment of pregnant women) along with courses in the field of visceral and cranial osteopathy and continue to expand my skills in these areas with regular post graduate courses.
I find the workings of the human body fascinating and through my work have never ceased to be amazed at the bodies ability to self heal and repair itself when given the right tools.
Children and babies are very rewarding to treat because their bodies are young and healthy and the cycles of growth yield wonderful results from osteopathic treatment. Treating children to ease the strain and stresses their bodies receive from the trauma that can occur from birth or simply everyday bumps and falls can have a profound effect on their health.
I’ve helped children with colic, reflux, constipation, poor sleep patterns, anxiety, developmental delay, coordination and posture, recurrent chest and ear infections, learning difficulties, emotional concerns and many other problems.
My treatment approach is a mix of structural and cranial and I use a variety of techniques tailored to the individual and their presenting complaint. Whether it’s someone young or elderly, a triathelete or office worker, I aim to treat the whole person not just the symptoms. I empower people to take better care of themselves both physically and emotionally allowing them to express their health to its fullest and get on with the important business of enjoying life.
I am registered with theOsteopathic Council of Ireland (OCI). I am also a registered practitioner withVHI,Laya,HSAandGlo Health.
